Hooded Leather Jackets
No products found for the selected color.
A hooded leather jacket solves the one thing a classic leather jacket cannot: coverage when the weather turns. You keep the hide, the structure and the way leather ages — and gain a hood you can pull up in wind or rain, or unbutton and leave at home.
Fixed or detachable hood
The single decision that shapes everything else:
- Detachable — buttons or zips out, so one jacket covers two looks. Take the hood off and you have a clean-collared leather jacket for evenings; put it back for a weekend. This is the more versatile choice and what most buyers should pick.
- Fixed — permanently attached, usually softer and more casual in feel, with a slightly more relaxed line through the shoulder.
What the hood is made from
Most hooded leather jackets pair a leather shell with a cotton or jersey hood, which is deliberate: a full leather hood is heavy, holds its shape awkwardly and does not sit comfortably up. A fabric hood drapes properly, packs flat when detached and is easier to keep clean. Some styles use a matching leather-trimmed edge for a sharper finish. Shearling-lined versions add real insulation for cold months.
Styles you will find
- Hooded biker and moto jackets — the asymmetric zip and hardware of a classic moto, softened by a hood.
- Hooded bombers — ribbed hem, relaxed body, the most casual option.
- Hooded leather coats — longer cuts that cover the hip, the most practical in genuinely bad weather.
- Pullover styles — no full-length zip, closer to a heavyweight hoodie in leather.
Fit and layering
A hood adds bulk at the neck and shoulder, so the fit brief differs slightly from a plain leather jacket. Check that the shoulder seam still sits at the edge of your shoulder, and allow enough room across the chest to layer a hoodie or sweatshirt underneath — that is how most people actually wear these. If you are between sizes and plan to layer, take the larger one; leather gives about half a size across the body but nothing in the shoulders. Our measuring guide covers how to take the numbers properly.
Leather and colour
Cowhide gives the most structure and durability, goatskin is durable with a subtle pebbled grain, and lambskin or sheepskin is softest against the skin. Black is the easiest to wear and hides weather marks; brown reads more casual and develops character faster. For the full comparison see lambskin vs cowhide vs sheepskin.
Caring for it in the wet
A hood helps, but leather still needs looking after in rain. Let a wet jacket dry slowly at room temperature away from radiators, then condition it once dry. Our guides on waterproofing a leather jacket and everyday leather care cover the routine.
