Leather Sneakers

Low-top sneakers are the more versatile of the two, slipping under a trouser hem cleanly and reading as tidy with almost anything. Minimal, low-contrast styling dresses up most easily; chunkier soles and visible branding lean sportier.

Choosing a good pair

• Construction: look for neat, even stitching and a sole that is well bonded or stitched to the upper.
• Fit: leather gives a little as it breaks in, so aim for snug rather than tight at first, with room to wiggle your toes.
• Colour: white and off-white are the most flexible; black, brown, and tan read dressier and hide marks more forgivingly.

Keeping them clean

Wipe leather uppers with a damp cloth, brush suede with a dedicated brush, and use shoe trees or crumpled paper to hold their shape between wears. A light conditioner once a season keeps the leather from drying out.
