Most people do not choose a handbag. They settle for one — the closest compromise between the colour they wanted, the size that nearly works, and a strap drop either too short to clear a coat or too long to sit where they like it. A bag gets used every day, so the small irritations compound: the laptop that fits diagonally but not flat, the phone pocket a centimetre too shallow, gold hardware when everything else you wear is silver.
Custom removes the settling. You specify the internal dimensions around what you actually carry, match the hardware to your own jewellery, and pick a colour instead of accepting whatever was produced this season.
Start with what goes inside
The most useful thing you can do before designing a bag is empty your current one onto a table. Measure the largest item — usually a laptop, tablet, folder or water bottle — and work outward. A bag designed around a 13-inch laptop is a different object from one built for a 16-inch, and that difference is not something you can eyeball from a product photo.
Then decide how it should be carried. A shoulder bag worn over a winter coat needs a longer strap drop than one worn over a blouse. A crossbody needs the drop measured diagonally, shoulder to hip. Top handles want enough clearance to slip a hand or forearm through comfortably.
What can be specified
- Silhouette — tote, shoulder bag, crossbody, satchel, bucket, hobo, clutch or structured top-handle.
- Dimensions — width, height and depth to your own numbers.
- Straps — fixed or detachable, single or double, your chosen drop, adjustable buckles or sliders.
- Closure — zip, magnetic snap, turn lock, flap with strap, drawstring, or open top.
- Interior — slip pockets where you want them, a zipped security pocket, card slots, pen loop, key leash, divider, or a padded laptop sleeve.
- Lining — fabric and colour, including a light lining if you are tired of losing things in a dark bag.
- Hardware — gold, silver, gunmetal, antique brass or black, across zips, feet, rings and clasps.
- Structure and personalisation — firm enough to stand up or soft and slouchy, plus initials where the design allows.
Choosing the leather
Bags are the one leather item where hide choice changes the whole character of the object, not just its durability.
- Full-grain — strongest, and the only one that develops a real patina. Ideal for a bag you intend to keep for years. It shows marks, and on full-grain those become the finish rather than damage.
- Top-grain — sanded smoother and more even. Choose it for a consistent, refined look with fewer natural markings.
- Cowhide — sturdy and structured, the right answer for a tote or work bag that carries weight and stands on its own.
- Lambskin — exceptionally soft and light with a fine grain. Beautiful for a soft shoulder bag or clutch, though it scratches more readily.
- Goatskin — durable and supple with a pebbled texture that hides scuffs well. An underrated everyday choice.
- Suede — matte and tactile, lovely on a bucket or hobo, but it needs care and dislikes rain.

Custom bags generally take about 3–5 weeks. Anything from our standard ranges ships in roughly 5–10 working days.
Fair warnings and common questions
Can I return a custom bag?
Not on the usual terms — the 7-day window applies to standard orders. A bag built to your specification is made for one customer, so custom orders follow different terms, and where something is wrong we work on correcting the piece rather than refunding. Will the colour match my photo exactly?
We would rather be honest than promise. Leather takes dye differently from fabric or paint, and natural hides vary. Send the reference and we will tell you what is realistically achievable in your chosen leather.
Can you copy a designer bag?
We will not reproduce another brand's protected design or logos. What we can do is build a bag that solves the same problem — the size, the carry, the pocket layout you liked — as an original piece in your leather and hardware.
What if the strap wears out?
