PERSONALIZED CRAFTSMANSHIP

Design Your Custom Made Moccasins

Moccasins are one of the few shoes where standard sizing genuinely fails a lot of people. The construction wraps a single piece of leather up and around the foot, so the shoe is defined as much by girth and instep height as by length. If you have a wide forefoot, a high instep, a narrow heel that slips, or two feet that are honestly different sizes, an off-the-rack pair will either pinch across the vamp or gape at the collar. Made-to-measure solves that by building the shoe around your foot rather than asking your foot to negotiate with a generic last.

What we can build to your specification

  • Fit dimensions - length, ball width, instep girth, heel width, and different measurements for left and right feet if needed.
  • Style - classic driving moc, penny loafer moccasin, fringed or plain toe, moccasin boot, or a slipper-weight house moccasin.
  • Sole - soft rubber driving pebbles for indoor and car use, or a hardier outdoor sole if you plan to walk in them properly.
  • Leather and colour - including matching a tone you already own.
  • Lining - unlined for breathability and a barefoot feel, or a soft lining for warmth and shape retention. Shearling lining is an option if you want a cold-weather pair.

Measuring for your moccasins

  1. Measure late in the day. Feet swell over the course of a day and a shoe fitted to a morning foot can feel tight by evening.
  2. Stand on a sheet of paper with your weight on the foot and trace around it, pencil held upright. Do both feet.
  3. With a soft tape, measure the girth around the ball of the foot and the girth over the instep at its highest point. These two numbers are what make a moccasin fit rather than merely go on.
  4. Note the sock you intend to wear. A bare-foot driving moc and a wool-sock winter moc are different shoes.

Send the tracings and numbers with your enquiry and we will confirm anything ambiguous first.

Which leather suits a moccasin

Because the upper wraps and gathers, moccasins want leather that is supple enough to mould but substantial enough to hold its shape. Full-grain cowhide is the traditional choice: it breaks in to your foot and develops a patina over years. Goatskin is a good middle ground, durable but noticeably softer and lighter underfoot. Suede gives the relaxed, matte look most people picture for a driving moc, though it needs protecting from rain. Lambskin is the softest option and best kept for indoor or slipper-style pairs, as it will not stand up to pavement. Our types of leather guide goes into these differences, and the grain grade matters too: full-grain keeps the natural surface and ages best.

How your moccasins is made

You send measurements and describe what you want. We come back with a confirmed specification - leather, colour, sole, lining, detailing - and check anything that looks inconsistent. Once you approve it, the pair is cut and hand-stitched to that spec. Made-to-measure footwear normally ships in about 3-5 weeks. There is no delivery charge inside the USA; international shipping is calculated at checkout.

Moccasins questions, answered

Can I return a custom pair if I change my mind?

Not in the usual way, and we would rather be straight about it. Our standard 7-day return window applies to stock sizes. A pair cut to your own measurements cannot be resold, so custom orders are handled through alteration instead - if the fit is off, talk to us and we will work on correcting it. Full details are on our shipping and returns page.

Will they stretch?

Yes, somewhat. Unlined leather moccasins relax and mould to the foot over the first few weeks. We account for that when we build to your numbers, which is why it matters that you send actual measurements rather than your usual shoe size.
