What changes when the bag is made for you
Totes
The two variables that decide whether a tote gets used are handle drop and base width. Handles need enough drop to clear a coat shoulder; a base needs enough width that the bag stands rather than folds in on itself. Both are fixed forever on a stock tote and both are yours to set on a custom one.
Weekenders and holdalls
Here it's about honest volume. People routinely buy weekenders too small because the shape is flattering, then travel with a second bag anyway. Tell us the length of trip and whether shoes and a wash bag need to go in, and we'll size the body and the gusset accordingly. Cabin dimensions for your usual airline are worth mentioning too — that's a hard constraint we can build to.
Messenger bags and satchels
Strap width and pad placement matter enormously on a bag you wear across the body all day. So does whether the flap closes with buckles you have to undo each time or a magnetic catch hidden behind them. Both are specification choices, not compromises you have to accept.
Backpacks
Torso length varies far more between people than backpack makers acknowledge. A pack sized to your back sits properly on the hips instead of hanging off the shoulders, which changes how a loaded bag feels over an hour of walking.

- A padded laptop or tablet sleeve, sized to your device
- Zipped, slip and patch pockets, inside and out
- Handle length, strap width, and whether the strap detaches or adjusts
- Closure — zip, magnetic catch, turn-lock, buckle straps or drawstring
- Hardware finish: antique brass, nickel, gunmetal or black
- Protective metal feet on the base, if the bag will be set down often
- Hide, colour and lining fabric

Matching hide to purpose
Weight and structure pull in opposite directions, and picking a hide is mostly about deciding which one you care about more.
A bag that must hold its shape — a structured tote, a hard-edged satchel — wants full-grain cowhide. It's the most rigid option and it wears in rather than out, developing a patina that most people prefer to the original finish. Top-grain gives a smoother, more uniform surface with slightly less weight, good for a cleaner, less rustic look. For something soft and slouchy that collapses attractively when empty, lambskin is the natural choice, though it marks more easily and suits a bag that lives indoors or in a car. Goatskin sits usefully in between: pebbled, resilient and light, and it hides scuffs well, which makes it a strong pick for a bag in daily use. Suede is a texture decision rather than a durability one — beautiful, but it stains and needs protecting. How your bag is made
- Brief. Describe the bag, what goes in it, and any reference images or sketches. Rough dimensions are fine at this stage; if you own a bag whose proportions you like, measuring that one is the fastest shortcut.
- Specification. We work through the details with you and confirm everything — dimensions, hide, colour, lining, hardware, pocket plan — before any leather is cut.
- Making. The hide is selected, cut, stitched and finished by hand.
- Delivery. Domestic express shipping is on us; international delivery is calculated at checkout.
Plan on about 3–5 weeks for a made-to-order bag. Stock pieces ship in roughly 5–10 working days if your timing is tight.
Bag questions, answered
Can a custom bag be returned?
Not in the ordinary way. Stock orders have a 7-day return window; a bag built to your own dimensions can't be put back into inventory, so custom orders are covered by different terms and we resolve problems by altering the piece rather than refunding it. That's the honest position, and it's why the specification stage is deliberately thorough.
What if I get a dimension wrong?
Tell us as early as you can. Before cutting, anything can change. After cutting, pockets and straps are often adjustable but the body of the bag is not.
Will the leather match the colour I saw on screen?
Closely, but not identically — screens vary and natural hides carry their own variation in grain and tone. That variation is a property of real leather rather than a flaw. If exact colour is critical, say so and we'll talk it through before confirming.
