PERSONALIZED CRAFTSMANSHIP
Custom Jackets
A jacket is the hardest garment to buy off a rail. It has to clear your shoulders, close over a jumper, end where you want it to end, and hold its shape while you move. Standard sizing picks one compromise and applies it to everyone. Custom ordering removes it - and not only for leather. Gacket makes bombers, varsity jackets, biker cuts, denim, satin and windbreaker-style outerwear to your own measurements.
Which style are you building?
Each silhouette has its own decisions, so start from the shape:
- Biker - asymmetric zip, belted or beltless, wide or narrow lapel. Usually cowhide or goatskin for structure. See biker jackets.
- Bomber - the ribbing decides the look. Cuff, hem and collar rib in your colour, body cut close or blouson-full. Browse bomber jackets.
- Varsity - contrasting body and sleeves, chenille or embroidered lettering, snap front, striped trims. Our most personalised category; see varsity jackets.
- Denim - wash depth, rigid or stretch, western yokes, shearling or blanket lining.
- Satin - lightweight, high-shine, usually bomber-cut and the natural base for embroidery or patch work.
- Windbreaker and shells - hood or collar, half-zip or full, drawcord hem, packable cut.
Going deep on leather specifically? Our custom leather jacket page covers hides, linings and hardware in detail.
What's adjustable on any style
Whatever the silhouette, these are yours to set: overall length, shoulder width, sleeve length and cuff opening, body taper, collar type, closure, pocket count and placement, lining weight, hardware finish, colour, and personalisation where the style allows. If a detail matters and isn't listed, ask - we'll say plainly when something isn't possible.
Materials
For leather we work in full-grain, top-grain, lambskin, sheepskin, cowhide, goatskin, suede and shearling. Lambskin is soft and drapes immediately; cowhide is heavy, structured and breaks in slowly; goatskin is tough but supple; suede is matte and casual; shearling carries its own wool lining. The types of leather guide explains how each ages. Non-leather styles are specified by weight, weave and finish instead.
The ordering sequence
- Describe the jacket. A reference image, a sketch, or "like this one but shorter" all work.
- We confirm the full spec - style, material, colour, trims, hardware, lining and measurements - and you approve it.
- The pattern is drafted to your figures and the jacket cut and handmade to order.
- Dispatch. Made-to-measure orders normally take around 3-5 weeks; standard sizes ship in roughly 5-10 working days. Within the USA we cover express shipping; international rates come up at checkout.
Measuring for outerwear
Measure over a t-shirt with the tape flat and unpulled: chest, shoulder seam to seam, sleeve from shoulder point to wrist with a slight bend, waist, and back length from the nape to your preferred hem. Then tell us what a tape can't capture - what you'll wear underneath. A bomber sized for a t-shirt and one sized over a thick hoodie are different garments. Our measuring guide covers the technique for any fabric.
Jacket questions, answered
Are custom jackets returnable?
Stock sizes fall under the 7-day return window. Custom jackets don't - they're built for one person and can't go back on the shelf, so they're resolved by alteration rather than refund. Get the spec and measurements carefully agreed up front. Full terms on shipping and returns.
Could you recreate a jacket I have? for your jacket
Often, yes - send photographs and flat measurements. We can't reproduce another brand's trademarks or logos, but the cut and proportions are usually workable.
Is a custom jacket built differently from a stock one?
The stitching is protected by our lifetime guarantee. The difference is that the pattern starts from your numbers rather than a size chart. You can read more about how we work on our craftsmanship page.
